Leading Services
Leading Services
Whether you’ve been leading services since you became a bar or bat mitzvah, or you’ve always wanted to learn, at Beth Israel you can join our corps of shlicheh tzibor (literally, representatives of the community—those who pray for the group).
As a congregation of learners, we value the knowledge and kavanah (intent) that our lay service leaders bring to our shared prayer experience. Leading is also a way to enhance your own understanding and commitment to Jewish worship.
Students in grades K-7 participate in and learn to lead Shabbat morning services and do Torah study as part of the Rimon Religous School. Individualized tutoring help students expand their repertoire of prayers with a goal of mastering Shabbat service leadership. Students in Rimon Religious School use the main service in the sanctuary as a laboratory, coming in for different sections on different shabbatot and then debrief with their class, learning more about the Shabbat prayers. At the end of Rimon's Shabbat session, students join our main service and help lead final prayers.
