All DayThanksgiving is almost upon us. That means it's almost time for Black Friday, CyberMonday, and...Giving Tuesday. Unlike the other two post-Thanksgiving days, Giving Tuesday is not about shopping or commercialism. Held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it's a growing worldwide movement to focus on helping out and giving back. What is Giving Tuesday? Giving Tuesday began at the 92d Street Y in New York City, one of the oldest and largest Jewish community centers in the United States. It comes from the basic Jewish principles of Tzedakah (Righteous Donations) and Ma'asim Tovim (good deeds). Giving Tuesday encourages people all over the world to take a day and devote it to using our resources to improve the world, with a focus on donations that make a difference on the ground. Giving Tuesday is a movement of radical generosity. Last year more than 2.7 billion dollars in contributions to worthwhile causes came out of this movement! Where will you donate this Giving Tuesday? Perhaps Beth Israel will be on your list.
