TEACHER PROFILES





Audrey Kennen is our Kindergarten and Grade 1 lead teacher. She has been teaching in our Religious School for the past seven years. Audrey works in the Oxford Public School System as a Teacher Aide in a third grade classroom. She has been a Teacher Aide and a substitute teacher for grades pre-k through grade eight for the past four years. Audrey resides in Oxford with her husband Steven, and her two children Joshua and Jared. She and her family are Beth Israel congregants.



Keren Gordon





Keren Gordon
is our Grade 2 and 3 lead teacher. Keren is in her junior year at Clark University. She is a graduate of the Gann Academy. In 2006-7, Keren spent the year in Israel on Young Judaea’s Year Course. During the summer, Keren works at the Jeiwsh Community Center of Greater Boston’s Grossman Camp. She is from Natick, MA.

Ellen





Ellen Benz
is one of our Grade 4 and 5 lead teachers. Ellen grew up and currently resides in Worcester. She is a graduate of the Solomon Schechter Day School. Ellen is a student in the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program at Brandeis University. She and her family, Udo, Nadia and Noah are congregants at Congregation Beth Israel.

Rachel Herzberg


Rachel Herzberg is one of our Grade 4 and 5 lead teachers. Rachel grew up and currently resides in Worcester. She is a graduate of the Solomon Schechter Day School. Rachel spent her summers as a camper at Camp Ramah in New England. She received her undergraduate degree from the International Disciplinary School (IDC) in Herzliya, Israel. Rachel is also a Beth Israel congregant.







Reena



Reena Slovin is one of our lead teachers for sixth and seventh grade. She has worked in Jewish education for many years. Currently, she is the Assistant Principal of the Elementary School at Maimonides, a K-12 Orthodox Jewish day school in Brookline, Massachusetts. Before that, she worked for Gateways: Access to Jewish Education. Reena has taught at Congregation Beth Israel's Hebrew School and has led Israeli folk dance sessions and performing groups for youth and adults in Worcester and at Camp Ramah in New England. Reena and her family are congregants of Beth Israel.


Aaron



Aaron Fenster
is an assistant teacher in our school. Aaron is in his senior year at Clark University. He has served as a counselor at the URJ Joseph Eisner Camp for Living Judaism for a number of summers. Aaron is from Rochester, NY.


Jacob




Jacob Nathan
is an assistant teacher in our school. Jacob is in his senior year at Clark University. He spent many summers at the Jewish Community of Greater Boston’s Grossman Camp. Jacob is from Brookline, MA.


Ya'ara Persing





Ya’ara Persing
is an assistant teacher in our school. Ya’ara is in her junior year at Clark University. She spent the 2006-7 academic-year in Israel. Ya’ara is from Brookline, MA.


Kara Trietsch





Kara Trietsch
is an assistant teacher in our school. Kara is in her senior year at Clark University. She is from Brookline, MA and grew up at Temple Israel in Boston and served on their NFTY chapter board for three years. In high school she traveled to Israel twice, once on a trip to recruit other teens to travel to Israel and once with NFTY.






Ingrid Goldfein
is the recipient of a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Science in Education from the Bank Street College of Education in New York. Originally from Brookline, M.A., Ingrid has taught in various educational settings, including schools, camps and youth groups, for over fifteen years. She currently teaches pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, and Facing History and Ourselves in the seventh grade at the Zvi Plich Religious School, and is Director of Admission at New Jewish Academy in Worcester.






Judy Moseley
offers more than a decade of Religious School experience. She was a Religious School Principal for 3 years at Temple Shalom Emeth in Burlington, MA. Before that she taught for several years in the same Temple. Judy is also the Executive Director of Congregation Beth Israel. She has been with the Synagogue for over 4 years.

Judy Moseley is thrilled to serve the Zvi Plich Religious School as an educator. While earning a BA at UMASS Amherst, a Masters in Business from Northeastern University and taking many master level Education courses at Hebrew College, Judy is committed to educating our children through our religious school. In addition to her love of yiddishkeit and Israel, Judy loves to garden and bowl.






Rabbi Joel Pitkowsky
teaches our sixth and seventh grade during the week. Rabbi Pitkowsky grew up in Young Judaea, participating in their youth group and summer camps. He graduated from Rutgers College with a double major in Hebraic Studies and History. As an undergraduate student, Rabbi Pitkowsky studied for one year at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. Immediately following graduation he lived for one year in Israel, volunteering for six months on Kibbutz Yavneh, and working for the Masorti Movement in Ashkelon for six months. Following Rabbinic ordination in May, 2001, Rabbi Pitkowsky served as the Assistant Rabbi of the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale, in Riverdale, New York. Among his responsibilities at CSAIR was being Principal of the Hebrew School, coordinating children’s programs, and being rabbi of the parallel High Holiday service.

BI Religious School Snow Cancellation Policy

Please note that we follow the Worcester Public schools in regard to snow cancellation. When Worcester Public schools are closed there is no BI Religious School. If a storm moves in during the school day or one is forecast to arrive during Religious School hours, we will make a determination by noon and contact you. If a storm is forecast for a Friday evening, night or Saturday morning, we will make a determination before Shabbat whether or not we will have school that Saturday and contact you.
