Me’ir Sherer, Director of Congregational Learning
As a part of Congregation Beth Israel’s newly established Congregational Learning Model, Mr. Sherer is working in partnership with Rabbi Joel Pitkowsky, Cantor Marina Shemesh, Executive Director Judy Moseley, religious school staff, youth, lay leaders, and congregants to provide Jewish learning across generations from the religious school to youth activities to adult education and programming. The creation of this new position in 2008-2009 reflects the Congregation’s commitment to providing Jewish learning to members at all ages and stages of life.
Prior to assuming the position of Director of Congregational Learning, Me’ir Sherer was a Family Education Consultant at the Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Boston (BJE) and on the faculty of Prozdor, the secondary school division of Hebrew College in Newton. Previously, he served as the Jewish Family Educator for Temple Israel in Boston and as the Children’s Program Coordinator at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC in Newton.
Mr. Sherer earned a Master’s degree in Jewish Education at Hebrew College and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University. He received B.A.s from Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary, List College. Mr. Sherer also completed the Melton Senior Educators Program at Hebrew University and holds a Certificate in Jewish Family Education from Hebrew College. In addition to other awards, he is the recipient of the Harry H. Fein Memorial Prize from Hebrew College.
